Arkansas Truck Driving FAQ

Can I take the CDL tests at any DMV office?
Throughout the state of Arkansas, there are five different testing locations at Trooper locations:

- Little Rock
- Pine Bluff
- Newport
- Hope
- Springdale

Am I allowed to renew my CDL by mail like a regular driver’s license?
For the most part: no. The only way you are allowed to renew by mail in Arkansas is if you are out of the state due to military responsibilities or if you are attending a school out of state. Other than those two circumstances, you need to go in person to renew.

How much does it cost to get a duplicate of my CDL?
It costs $10 to replace your CDL.  But there are also several documents you may need to bring with you to confirm your identity. Any two of these will work:

- Photo I.D.  (driver’s license)
- Birth Certificate
- Passport
- Court Order
- Military ID

How old do I have to be to become a truck driver?
In order to drive within the state of Arkansas, you have to be at least 18 years old. If you want to drive between states, you will have to be at least 21 years of age or older.

When I apply for my CDL, will they look at my driving record?
Yes, they will. It can disqualify you from receiving your CDL, especially if you have something like a DUI or DWI.

What types of endorsements are available?
There are a few. Here is a small list:
T: Double or Triple Trailer
N: Tank Vehicle
H: Hazardous Materials

I want to be a truck driver, but I don’t want to stay in Arkansas. Can you find me a trucking company to work for still?
Yes, we can! We have contacts all across the country. Wherever you want to live, we can find a quality trucking company ready to hire you. All you have to do is let us know and we can arrange it.

How much is it going to cost to get a background check for the hazmat endorsement?
Here is the general breakdown of costs:

- FBI fee: $22
- Information Collection Fee: $38
- Threat Assessment Fee: $34

Does it cost anything to renew my CDL?
The basic renewal cost is $50. If you have endorsements that you need to renew, those will be more. The hazmat endorsement renewal is $35.  And each time you renew your hazmat endorsement, you will need to go through a background and fingerprint check.
